Sarah Jessica Parker is best known for her role in the TV series Sex and the City, in which she played Carrie Bradshaw. Her character was a young, single and fashionable writer living in New York City. She spent her days shopping and writing, although she did not know much about using satellite internet, and her evenings hitting the town with her single girlfriends. At the start of the movie we find that the once happily married couple are separated and contemplating divorce after Meryl learns of an affair Paul had. Willing to hear Paul out, Meryl takes a walk with him one rainy night through their home city, New York. On the walk they witness the murder of one of Meryl’s clients. After the killer sees them, they not only become witnesses to his crime, but targets of his next one. Their apartments are armed with security guards, but that is not enough. Authorities believe the safest place for the Morgans is in the witness protection program, in Ray, Wyoming.
The thought of leaving New York City for the rural area of Wyoming is awful for both of them. For Meryl, she cannot imagine spending time cooped up with her cheating husband. To top it off, they are hit with a big culture shock in Ray. Life is slower, people dress differently, they shoot guns, and there are no skyscrapers. When Meryl and Paul ask to use the satellite internet connection to check their e-mail, or to make a phone call, they learn that they have been banned from any form of communication, whether it be a cell phone or satellite broadband.
Cooped up in the house together with no outside communication, they begin to rekindle their marriage and being to enjoy Ray, even without satellite internet. After a few days, because of a call Meryl made behind everyone’s back, the killer tracks the couple down in Ray. With the help of their new friends, they are able to defend themselves until the authorities come. Their lives are saved, and so is their marriage. Upon returning to New York, they reevaluate their lives and decide to work on their marriage. A few months later they are still happily married and have adopted a baby girl, who they name Ray. Meryl is also pregnant with another child.
